From the beginning of Evan Lewis’s career in Chicago as a furniture creator, his museum-quality pieces garnered immediate attention from noted tastemakers like the late interior designer Richard Himmel and Holly Hunt. His work as a maker of furniture and large scale kinetic sculpture provides vast experience in adapting classical motifs to contemporary design. His Chicago showroom provides a gallery for his original, hand-made functional art pieces, as well as an adjoining studio where objects are made by hand by Lewis and his team of skilled artisans. A typical piece is hand-forged and/or welded using time-honored materials such as cold-rolled steel and iron with hand-applied patinas. He often designs and makes his own tools for specific works.
